Love, Baxter, a Newport Beach pet end-of-life and grief support platform, launched its pet memorial tree planting service on July 29. Buyers can plant a single tree or a grove of up to 100, for their own pet or as a sympathy gift to someone else. A digital certificate carries the pet's name, the tree species, and the coordinates of the planting site.

Every tree goes into an active mangrove restoration site on Kenya's coastline. Verification runs through Veritree, an independent platform that GPS-tags plantings, documents sites with drone footage, and monitors them by satellite for three years. Third-party auditors cross-reference field data against project plans rather than relying on self-reporting.

The company says it planted several hundred trees before launch and used feedback from those buyers to shape the live product. It also sells into corporate condolence gifting at volume, with certificates formatted for EU, U.S., and Canadian sustainability reporting.

Founder Adam Greenbaum built the platform after his Boston Terrier died in 2024. He previously founded the veterinary web agency WhiskerCloud, acquired by PetDesk in 2022. The company says its site and social channels reach more than two million people a month.

Why the audit trail matters more than the $12

Proof of planting is a real gap in this category, and $12 is an aggressive entry point. Love, Baxter's own review of four competing programs put their range at roughly $30 to $82 per gift, with one requiring a 10-tree minimum.

That comparison is company-conducted and it does not hold at the low end. Plant Memorial Tree lists pet memorial trees at $14.99, close enough that $12 reads as a modest undercut rather than a category reset. The durable differentiator is the audit trail. None of the widely marketed programs publish per-planting coordinates, and at least one states outright that individual trees are not marked or visitable.

Whether coordinates become table stakes for the category

One million trees at $12 is a $12 million gross target, which puts the stated goal years out at any plausible early volume. The number worth watching is not the total but whether competing programs start publishing coordinates in response.

The company puts daily U.S. pet mortality at 35,000 to 38,000, its own calculation from AVMA household counts and published mortality rates rather than a published statistic.

On mangrove carbon, NOAA puts the sequestration rate at roughly ten times that of mature tropical forest, with three to five times more carbon stored per unit area, both higher than the two-to-four-times range the release cites. Global mangrove loss is widely estimated at 30 to 50 percent over the last half century, though recent research puts the current annual loss rate closer to 0.3 to 0.6 percent than the 3 percent the release describes.
