Wedgewood recalls compounded veterinary drugs shipped since February

Wedgewood Pharmacy is recalling compounded veterinary medications it shipped between February 18th and October 6th, 2026, and the lookup list it posted for clinics runs to 3,927 SKUs. The Swedesboro, New Jersey pharmacy said on October 21st that "inconsistencies in the reliability of certain analytical testing data" from its laboratory could leave products subpotent or superpotent.

That risk runs both ways. Wedgewood says low potency can mean ineffective treatment, and high potency can mean toxicity or overdose. It has received 98 complaints so far, 7 of them serious.

The recall reaches staples of chronic pet care

Wedgewood called itself the largest compounding pharmacy devoted to animal health in the U.S. when Partners Group bought a majority stake in 2021. It said then that it served more than 50,000 prescribers a year.

The recall list reads like a small animal formulary.

We tallied the lookup data, which Wedgewood dated October 20th. It holds more than 86,000 lots, and the drugs with the most SKUs are long-term maintenance medications:

  • Trilostane, 300 SKUs
  • Pimobendan, 295 SKUs
  • Methimazole, 283 SKUs
  • Gabapentin, 250 SKUs
  • Ursodiol, 248 SKUs

Fluoxetine carries the most lots of any drug, at 11,795. Dosage forms span powders, pastes, oral suspensions, injectables, eye and ear preparations, and topical sprays and gels, for companion, equine, exotic, zoo, wildlife and aquatic animals.

Wedgewood says its own quality processes caught the problem, and the recall is being run "with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration."

Dispensing clinics now carry the notification work

Wedgewood is asking practices, pharmacies and other customers to "immediately examine their inventory, quarantine any affected product" and call its recall line. Those that have "further dispensed affected product should identify and notify their customers of the recall."

Pet owners holding affected product are told to stop using it, keep it and call the same line, and to contact their veterinarian with medical concerns.

Wedgewood brought in Sedgwick to coordinate.

Sedgwick is notifying customers by email and mail and arranging a refund or, "where possible, replacement." Wedgewood says it is also helping identify "clinically appropriate alternatives where available" to keep patients on treatment.

With nearly 4,000 SKUs on the list, the heavy lift falls on clinics that dispensed compounded drugs. Each has to match its records against the lookup, then call owners of dogs and cats on daily heart, thyroid or Cushing's medication. Clinics handled a smaller version of this in July, when a glass-contamination recall pulled four lots of Adequan.

Some recalled lots stay in date until May 2027

The recall covers only product still within its expiration date. In the lookup data, the listed lots expire between October 22nd, 2026 and May 3rd, 2027, so a bottle on a client's shelf can stay in scope well into spring.

For clinics, the first step is running every compounded script filled since February 18th against the recall lookup page.
