A supplement brand bets that cat compliance is a format problem, not a formula one

Pet Honesty launched Cat Squeezables, eight lickable purée supplements for cats, live on DTC, Amazon, and Chewy now and reaching Petco in August. The actives are commodity; the bet is that the lickable format cats already love solves the supplement-compliance problem that caps the category.

A supplement brand bets that cat compliance is a format problem, not a formula one

The hardest part of cat wellness has never been the science. It is getting a famously stubborn animal to swallow it. Pet Honesty's new Cat Squeezables line bets the fix is delivery, not chemistry: put functional supplements inside the lickable purée format cats already treat as a reward, and the compliance problem mostly solves itself.

Pet Honesty launches eight lickable supplement purées for cats

On July 7, Pet Honesty introduced Cat Squeezables, a line of eight lickable purées that each pair a targeted health formula with a format cats readily eat. The eight cover Calming Support, Digestive Gut Health, Hairball Support, Immune System Support, Daily Multivitamin, Senior Mobility Support, Skin & Coat Health, and Urinary Tract Health.

The purées are made with real salmon and omega-3s, grain free and high protein, without by-products or cellulose. The active ingredients are standard supplement fare matched to each benefit, including lysine, glucosamine, pre- and postbiotics, cranberry extract, psyllium husk, taurine, zinc, chamomile, L-theanine, and L-tryptophan.

Pet Honesty says it spent 18 months on feeding and palatability testing, and cites an independent feeding study in which 100% of cats consumed the product. The line is available now direct on PetHonesty.com, Amazon, and Chewy, with Petco retail distribution arriving in August.

Founded in Austin in 2018 and majority-owned by Vestar Capital Partners since 2021, Pet Honesty describes itself as the number-one and fastest-growing cat supplement portfolio brand in the U.S., a company claim it did not attribute to a measurement source. Its existing lines already sit in Walmart, Target, Petco, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, and Tractor Supply.

Why format, not formula, is the real moat

Read the ingredient panel and nothing jumps out. Glucosamine, taurine, cranberry, L-tryptophan: these are commodity actives available in every supplement aisle. The wedge here is not what is inside the tube. It is the tube.

Lickable purées are the fastest-growing shape in cat treats, a category worth roughly $1.62 billion in 2024 and growing at about 7.5% a year, with purée the dominant format. Inaba's Churu built the behavior, training a generation of cats to mob the squeeze tube. Pet Honesty is grafting function onto that trained response.

The logic is sound because a supplement a cat refuses has an efficacy of zero, and cats refuse pills, powders, and most chews. Solve adherence and you solve the thing that actually caps this category. That is also why the "100% consumed" figure, small study caveats aside, is the metric that matters. In supplements, palatability is not a nice-to-have. It is the input to repeat purchase, subscription retention, and lifetime value.

The move collapses two categories into one contested space. Lickable-treat incumbents like Inaba and Hartz sell enjoyment with little function. Supplement brands like VetriScience and Zesty Paws sell function and fight compliance daily. Pet Honesty wants the overlap, and it is not alone for long. Expect functional purées from the supplement players and "wellness" line extensions from the treat incumbents within a couple of quarters, plus private label at Chewy and Amazon. The format itself is not defensible. Brand, shelf position, and velocity are.

The distribution sequence is the disciplined part. Leading with direct, Amazon, and Chewy lets Pet Honesty prove velocity online, where format novelty travels cheaply, before committing to Petco slotting fees in August. It is a controlled omni ramp, not a land grab.

What the August Petco rollout will test

Petco is the real exam. Direct-to-consumer and Amazon reward novelty, but a physical shelf forces a positioning choice: does Cat Squeezables live in the treat aisle next to Churu, or in the supplement set next to the chews? Each planogram implies a different buyer, a different price expectation, and a different competitor.

Watch price per tube against plain Churu. Function earns a premium, but purée shoppers anchor to treat pricing, and the spread between the two is the entire margin story. Watch, too, whether rivals ship their own functional purées before the holidays. If Zesty Paws or a private-label program moves quickly, the format edge compresses into a brand-and-distribution race, which is exactly the fight a Vestar-backed incumbent already stocked in six national chains wants to have.

The broader signal for operators is simple. In cat wellness, the growth lever is shifting from the ingredient list to the delivery format. The brands that win will pick the shape the animal already accepts and put the function inside it.
