MetLife puts pet insurance quotes inside ChatGPT

MetLife said on October 14th, 2026 that MetLife Pet Insurance is now available through a ChatGPT plugin that walks a pet owner from questions about their pet to a binding quote. The owner then finishes the purchase on MetLife's own website.
MetLife calls itself the first major pet insurer to support conversational input of pet insurance applications through a ChatGPT plugin.
The quote happens in the chat, the sale on MetLife's site
An owner searches "MetLife Pet Insurance" in the ChatGPT Plugin Library, answers the questions the application needs, reviews coverage options and gets a binding quote, all in one conversation. From there the owner moves to the MetLife Pet Insurance website to review the quote and buy the policy.
"This is about using innovation to remove friction from an important financial decision," said Todd Katz, head of Group Benefits at MetLife. MetLife ties the launch to household cost pressure, citing its own data:
- One-third of employees worry about affording pet care.
- Fewer than one in 10 have pet insurance.
- Seven in 10 pet owners have delayed or skipped vet care because of cost.
Policies are issued by Metropolitan General Insurance Company, with MetLife Pet as the administrator, according to MetLife's pet insurance site, which counts 520,000 pets protected.
MetLife joins a ChatGPT aisle that comparison apps opened
MetLife is stepping into a channel that third-party tools opened this summer. Coverager reported in June that PetGPT's ChatGPT app returned U.S. quotes from Lemonade, Spot and Fetch, and later covered Fletch's comparison app, which pulled quotes from Spot, Lemonade, Prudent Pet and Healthy Paws.
In the UK, ManyPets launched its own ChatGPT plugin in September for indicative quotes. Coverager also reported that MetLife's app listing names Fletch Technologies as its developer.
So an owner asking ChatGPT about pet insurance can now land on a comparison grid or go straight to one carrier.
Insurers keep moving to where the decision happens
The plugin fits a pattern we have tracked in recent months. Trupanion put its claims engine inside Digitail's practice software, and Clarus built a free vet insurance portal that shows coverage at the point of care.
MetLife is doing the same thing one step earlier, at the moment an owner first asks a chatbot what coverage costs.
